EDUCATION PROGRAM:

THE MISSION: The mission of the Church Education Committee of the Church by the Sea is to provide persons of all ages with opportunities to learn, know, and experience the Christian life. We strive to accomplish this mission by providing an individualize curriculum in a multi-media approach for pre-school through adult education.

CHURCH SCHOOL: Each Sunday all Church School Students begin by attending the 10:30 AM worship service, in which are often included Children messages and other liturgical events important to children. The students are then dismissed from this service (about 10:45 AM), and the Church school classes begin and continue until 11:30 AM. We have classes for pre-K through twelfth grade. A nursery is also provided for infants and toddlers. Children are re-united with parents in Fellowship hall, usually around 11:30. SUNDAY-MORNING ALTERNATIVES: Children and youth may also stay with parents during the 10:30 AM service if parents so choose, and there is Staley Hall for parents with very young infants, which has a live TV feed of the service, so that they can experience the service and not be concerned about disturbing others.

VACATION CHURCH SCHOOL: Each June, we provide a week-look Christian education experience for children ages 5-12. This school, which usually runs from morning to early afternoon, is staffed by our skilled team of teachers, and often includes field trips to local areas of interest. One year, in studying service to our community, the students visited an actual Habitat for Humanity work site, and had a conversation with the site supervisor. Themes, programs, and field trips change every year.

BIBLE STUDY:
The Sunday Morning Bible Class taught by the ministers meets at 9:15 AM in Room #33 (third floor of Education Wing). All are welcome to join in on these classes and no previous experience or Biblical expertise is necessary. For this informal classes, coffee is available and baby sitting is available if arranged in the week prior with the Church Office.

SCHOOL OF RELIGION AND LIFE: In addition to Bible Study Classes and other programs on Biblical or faith topics, we also offer classes in areas which involve issues, topics, and situations from everyday life. These topics intersect faith with our everyday life, and are offered in a variety of formats such as: evening classes, Sunday afternoon workshops, movie and discussion evenings, bus trips, etc. Focus areas have included: Habits of highly effective people, religions of the world, investments, cooking classes, and many others.

RETREATS: On one Saturday morning, each spring and fall, we offer a spiritual retreat for adults. The retreats, which each have a different focus or theme, are led by Rev. Priscilla Felisky Whitehead. They are open to the public and often include meditation, private reflection, shared discussion, and close with a short worship with Holy Communion. Information and reservations are available through our Church Office.
